If you’re into distance and speed, then you’ll want to use the largest tires you can fit on the wheel. 35-inch tires are the smallest size and the most common for a standard truck. If you’re doing a lot of off-roading and want to go fast, you’ll probably want to use the best 37-inch tires. These are pretty common, too, but not as common as the 35-inch size.

The final size of the tire is 40. These are the biggest you can get on a standard truck and are commonly used in the rock crawling community, especially for people who are going to compete. If you’re not interested in rock crawling, these probably overkill, but if you are interested in rock crawling, these are the tires to get.

The last thing to consider is whether or not you want a mud tire. If you want to go off-roading a lot, then you may want to invest in a mud tire. Mud tires are made for use in the mud and are much better at it than a standard street tire.

They’re also much quieter on the street and don’t have as much of a risk of getting stuck in the mud, which means that you won’t have to worry about getting stuck in the mud as often.

If you get a set of the best mud tires, however, you shouldn’t use them on the street because they wear out quickly and they’re noisy, so you’ll want to use them only for off-roading. If you don’t want to buy two sets of tires, you can buy a set of all-terrain tires that are good for the street, but not necessarily for off-roading.

The final thing to consider is how much of your driving is going to be done off-road. If you’re just using it to go to work and back, it doesn’t make much sense to get the most expensive set of tires that are designed for off-roading. You’ll just end up wearing them out quickly and eventually will need to buy another set. If you’re going to be using it a lot for off-roading, though, then you should get a set of specialized tires.

Did You Know?

When you purchase a new off-road tire, it actually comes with a “label” installed in the tire. It’s not really a label but a small piece of plastic that has a serial number stamped into it. You can take this serial number and submit it to a manufacturer's website where you can order replacement parts for your tires without having to buy a whole new tire if you ever damage one.

This is great if you have multiple vehicles and want to swap tires between them and it’s also great if you’re worried about the longevity of your tires and want to be able to replace worn parts without having to replace the entire tire.

Bottom Line

The best tires for your truck will depend on how much you’re going to be using it off-road. If you’re not going to use it off-roading, you don’t need to get a specialized set of tires.

If you drive it a lot off-road, you can get a set of mud tires or all-terrain tires. If you’re planning on rock crawling, though, you’ll want to invest in a set of 40-inch tires. They’re big and bulky, but they’re a necessity if you’re going to be rock crawling.
